Stewardson 4th of July Celebration

Stewardson’s 4th of July celebration will be held Sunday, June 30th. The day’s festivities will be kicked off by a Pork Chop dinner served by C.O.W.S. at the Stewardson Community building from 11 am – 1 pm. The menu includes a grilled pork chop, baked potato or potato salad, baked beans, watermelon, and drink. The parade, organized by the Stewardson Fire Department, will step off at 3 pm.

Games and fun activities will be provided after the parade along with food at the park. Begin assembling your Geo Scavenger Hunt Team now. Each team of 4 will receive geographical coordinates of caches located around the area. Prizes will be awarded. The hunt will begin at 5 pm. All proceeds benefit the Stew-Stras Europe Excursion 2014. Want to stay in the park? A Bean Bag Tournament also begins at 5 pm. A Karate Demonstration will be held at 6 pm, followed by a performance by Dance Etc. at 7 pm. New this year, is the Not-So-Beauty Beauty Pageant at 7:40. Some lucky gentleman will be crowned Miss Heifer! The Little Mr. & Miss Stewardson will be crowned by 8 pm. The food stand will be open until 8 pm. The beautiful firework display, provided by the Village of Stewardson, will begin at dusk. Make plans now to celebrate in Stewardson on Sunday, June 30th!

C.O.W.S. to Sponsor 3rd Annual Big Sausage Jeep Run

The Community Organization Working for Stewardson has announced plans to make the 3rd Annual Big Sausage Run even bigger and better.

The event is to be held Saturday, June 22 and is promoted as a Jeep Run, but all vehicles are welcome, rain or shine. The fun begins with registration at 11:00 am at the Stewardson Community Building. The Run starts promptly at 12:30 and will return at 6 pm.

Back by popular demand, the smoked foot long rope sausage meal will be served starting at 6 pm. New this year is a Beer Garden. Live music will provided by The Sampson Jones Gang and Zach Linley & The Rebel Dare Devils. Raffles and drawings will be held all day.

The cost for the Jeep Run is $10 per driver and $5 for each additional passenger.

This year’s run is in memory of the late Don Everett who devoted many hours to the Stewardson Volunteer Fire Department and the Community Organization Working for Stewardson. All proceeds will be split between the Stewardson Volunteer Fire Department and C.O.W.S. for the restoration and beautification of Stewardson

2013 Hoofin To The Cow 5K

Third annual Hoofin to the Cow 5k and 1 mile fun run/walk will be held Saturday, June 1st. Take off will be at 8:30am for both races. CHIP timing will be used again this year for the race. Entry forms need to be turned in by May 21 to get the discounted pre-registered price.

Stewardson Strasburg Alumni Banquet Set

The Stewardson-Strasburg Alumni Association officers have received nominations for the awards to be presented at the annual banquet on May 25, 2013 at the Stewardson Community Center. One award will be presented in the three categories: Outstanding Student Award, Distinguished Service Award and Outstanding Alumnus Award.

Outstanding Student Award nominees are Jason Becker, James Thomas (JT) Friese, and Haley Danielle Mettendorf. Outstanding Alumnus Award Nominees are Earl Renshaw and Victoria J. Jeisy Scott. Distinguished Service Award Nominees are James Harrison, Donald Harrison, and Mark Wildman.

Tickets for the banquet are$10 in advance and $12 at the door and are available from Prairie National Bank, Stewardson, Shelby County State Bank, Strasburg, or Stewardson Builders Supply. Social hour begins at 5 PM, Dinner at 6 PM catered by Culver’s of Effingham, Award presentations and entertainment featuring our Stewardson COWS and Strasburg SCAN groups to follow.

The Class of 1958 and 1993 are planning reunions at this year’s banquet. Please get your tickets now and join us for a great evening of fellowship and reminiscing.
