Brian Flach and Nate Wascher accept award for Jim Carroll from Linda Lee Blaine and Giselle Hamm

Each year elected officials and community leaders from around Illinois and neighboring states participate in the Annual Rural Community Economic Development Conference, where they gain new insights into the strategies needed in today’s economic development environment. This year’s conference was held March 7- 8 in Peoria, and was hosted by the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs (IIRA) in conjunction with the Governor’s Rural Affairs Council, chaired by Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon and Rural Partners.

Three statewide awards are given to communities who have participated in the MAPPING (Management and Planning Programs Involving Nonmetropolitan Groups) process through the IIRA. Jim Carroll of Stewardson was selected as winner of the Community Champion award for his work in organizing and leading the Community Organization Working for Stewardson (C.O.W.S.). Show here are Linda Lee Blaine and Giselle Hamm of MAPPING presenting the award to Brian Flach and Nate Wascher, accepting for Carroll.
